Cindy Zautcke Memorial Speaker Series to Welcome Deonte Lewis

The Cindy Zautcke Memorial Endowed Fund will welcome Mr. Deonte Lewis from the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Milwaukee to campus on Tuesday, April 30 at 3:30 p.m. in the Lee Community Room.  Lewis will be joining members of the school's SEEK (Speak, Engage, Empower, Know) Diversity committee to discuss many topics, including diversity and inclusion. This is the fourth-annual speaker event sponsored by the Cindy Zautcke Memorial Endowed Fund, which was established in 2014 following the passing of Cindy Zautcke, who was an active member of the USM community and the parent of three USM students (now alumni). Read more about his visit here.
Celebrate Pamela Nosbusch

Join us on May 9 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. in the Jack Olson '67 Commons for a special retirement celebration honoring Pamela Nosbusch (known as Madame Strode to many). She will be retiring in June after an incredible 41 years at the school.
Uihlein Scholarship Fund
Do you know USM alumni who are considering sending their children to USM? Be sure to tell them about the Uihlein Scholarship. In 1994, Polly MDS'38 and Henry Uihlein MCDS'39 established a scholarship fund to increase accessibility of a USM education for children of alumni. Since its inception, the fund has awarded more than 550 scholarship grants totaling over $1.5 million.

Children of USM alumni (alumni who attended USM or a predecessor school for at least four years) and who qualify for financial assistance are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Click here for more information.
Are you looking for a fun and enriching summer program for your children? Since 1992, USM's Summer I.D.E.A.S. has been providing enriching academic and athletic opportunities to children in the Milwaukee community from grades PK through 12. Check us out online to learn more and to register!

What Brought You Back to USM: My former teachers who became fantastic colleagues. My return to USM was wholly unexpected. Enrolled at UW-Madison and feeling burnt-out after completing my master’s thesis, I visited USM in the winter of 1996 to learn more about how I might break into high school teaching. During that visit, Ken "Doc" Smith invited me to substitute for him for a week—an experience that led to a job offer in 1997. Teaching our smart, kind, enthusiastic students was already thrilling, but what really cemented my devotion to the school was the mentorship of incredible colleagues. Doc Smith, Steve Bruemmer, Peetie Basson, Rosie Lyons, and especially John Stephens looked after me and provided me with ongoing support. What else? The weekend before I first subbed for Doc I met with Susan Bell for tips on working with high-school kids. Her advice and support was invaluable—we’ve been collaborating ever since.
