As an alumnus and a USM teacher for 26 years, few people have been as synonymous with our school as Ben Zarwell '87. As the school year comes to an end, Ben is preparing to embrace his next chapter in life: retirement. Join us on Friday, May 24 at 2:30 p.m. for the annual March to the Memorials, an all-school event where our community collectively walks the distance from Milwaukee to our nation's memorials in Washington, D.C. Thanks to the generosity of the Class of 2024 and their families, USM will unveil a beautiful monument to military service to honor the brave members of our school community who have served in our nation's armed forces. For nearly a decade, all 4th grade students have participated in capstone projects to conclude their Lower School experience. They spend the year researching a topic of their choosing, with the help of a faculty or staff mentor, and then present their research to their peers and families in an evening presentation. For his project, Izak Kats '32 chose to learn about the history of USM, from the school's inception through the merger and move to the current campus. In April, USM students, families, and alumni gathered at Lake Park on Milwaukee's east side to remove trash as part of Milwaukee Riverkeeper's annual spring clean up. Our USM crew joined more than 4,200 volunteers city-wide who celebrated Earth Day by helping keep trash out of our rivers and lakes.
